Decorative arts design house, Fornasetti have brought their playful touch to an unmissable new exhibition, Practical Quotes, at Rome’s historic Palazzo Altemps. A 15th century palace housing exquisite Renaissance artworks and antiquities, Palazzo Altemps celebrates its 20th year open to the public with the showcase of over 800 pieces from the Fornasetti archive.

Known for their instantly-recognisable images of soprano, Lina Cavalieri’s face (the muse of founder Piero Fornasetti), the design house is an iconic Italian creative institution. Inspired by Greek and Roman arts, painter and sculptor Piero Fornasetti mischievously mixed classical motifs and style with subversive and surreal flourishes. Cavalieri’s face has been reinterpreted over 500 times, adorning plates and decorative homeware items. In fact, Cavalieri was very fond of Hotel de Russie and a regular guest.

The captivating Practical Quotes exhibition humorously juxtaposes witty Fornasetti works amid Palazzo Altemps’ historical masterpieces.
