We also believe that sustainability and social responsibility are deeply linked, and are part of our environment in a wider sense. Environmental Preservation

The topic of sustainability is already firmly anchored in the hotel's internal communications as a continuous process of evolution. We are proud to share with you a few of the most significant actions we’ve taken to reduce our environmental footprint.

Sustainably certified

Responsible purchasing

We are proud to partner with sustainable English suppliers, ensuring the best quality and limiting our impact on the environment.

Waste recovery

We consider food a precious resource that shouldn’t be wasted which is why we recycle our food waste, turning it into biogas to produce electricity. All of our used cooking oil is also collected and turned into biodiesel. 

Developing selective collecting

In addition to waste recovery, we have implemented an advanced waste sorting process. Papers and newspapers are recycled, as is cardboard. All glass within the hotel is collected daily and turned into new glass. We even go as far to collect and recycle all batteries and ink cartridges.

Responsible energy use

To limit energy’s overconsumption, we are monitoring our energy usage and reducing the number of energy-powered devices in use, especially at night. We prioritise energy efficient equipment when replacements are needed and have added sensors to some sections of the hotel to ensure that  lights are turned on only when needed. We have changed the hotel’s lighting to LED to reduce our energy consumption as much as possible.

Limiting plastic

We are working towards eliminating all single-use plastics in our hotel. We have replaced plastic cocktail sticks with metal ones and our straws are made from bamboo, which is recyclable. We have chosen to use leather coasters instead of paper ones. We aim to become 100% plastic free within our in-room bars.                                                                                                                                                                          

Spa products

We are delighted to use the spa products of Sir Rocco Forte’s daughter, Irene. Irene Forte’s skincare brand is certified B-corp, butterfly and positive luxury. Made in Italy for our group and hotels, her products are vegan-friendly, sustainable and natural. Our spa products packaging are made out of paper with 100% recycled fibres using vegetable-based inks. The bottles and jars are recyclable glass and partially made with recycled material. 



Water

Water is a scarce resource and we are committed to using it responsibly and durably. That is why we have flow limited in all the rooms to reduce excess water consumption.  

Eco Products

When another known eco-responsible option is available, we go out of our way to use it. We have 100% bamboo made combs, toothbrushes and toilet paper. Our shower caps, shaving razors and sewing kits are made from corn starch while the toys we sell and gifts we offer are made from a sustainable wood source.

The history of Brown's Hotel

Since opening in 1832, Brown’s has become renowned for its cosy and familiar atmosphere, comparable to a private home. Guests’ loyalty has been passed down through the generations like a treasured heirloom. Rudyard Kipling wrote about the special charms of his favourite hotel in familial terms: ‘our faithful, beloved, warm, affectionate Brown’s Hotel.’

Ideally situated in the city's historical heart

With Mayfair on our doorstep, you’re unlikely to run out of things to do. From discovering the art galleries of Cork Street, seeing a play at the theatres of Shaftesbury Avenue or eating at some of the capital’s finest restaurants and bars, London is a city that’s constantly reinventing itself while taking pride in its place as one of the great cultural treasure troves of the world.

Preservation of historical heritage

Brown's Hotel was originally made up of 13 intertwined properties on both Dover and Albemarle Street, and was built by master craftsmen in the 1800s. Weaving Brown's together is a series of staircases and corridors that hark back to the days when they were individual townhouses. Rich original wood panelling – installed by the Ford family – has been preserved in The Drawing Room; original stained glass windows are the centre of attention on the half landings; open fireplaces feature throughout; and the original hotel entrance on Dover Street – still in use today – proudly displays the hotel's original emblem.

At Brown’s Hotel, we’ve made a firm commitment to social improvements, to improve and enhance our local community. Below are a few of our latest initiatives towards social responsibility: 

 

Monthly actions

We always aim to surprise and delight – not only our guests but also our colleagues. We have instored monthly themed lunches for all Team Members as well as a monthly Treats Day.

Parties for Team Members & their children

Twice a year, in summer and winter, we are delighted to welcome our Team Members for a seasonal celebration. At Christmas time, we invite all of our colleagues and their families for a joyful reunion, a festive feast, and presents for the little ones.

Taking care of the body

Working in hospitality can be physically demanding. We are mindful of our Team Member’s health so we offer  monthly appointments with a podiatrist. In addition, we encourage active participation in sports, including yoga classes and football, to promote a healthy life-work balance. Our colleagues also have the option of enjoying spa treatments at a discounted price during Brown’s Wellness Month.

Taking care of the mind

In order to take care of mind as well as body,  we actively promote Mental Health Awareness Week. During this week, shared experiences and activities – from art to sports, gardening, baking and more – are put in place to help colleagues manage their mental health.

Hospitality Action

Brown's Hotel has partnered with Hospitality Action, a trade charity offering a crucial lifeline and support to people of all ages, working and retired from the hospitality industry. More than a thousand hospitality professionals are being helped and supported by Hospitality Action every year. Support includes financial assistance to low-income households and the Employee Assistance Programme, providing expert advice, support and assistance to staff and managers of participating employers.
