On recommending London's best dining spots

What I love most about being a concierge is meeting new people and curating experiences tailored to them. Recommending the perfect restaurant means matching the atmosphere and cuisine to their preferences. Once, an elderly couple insisted on visiting Sexy Fish—I’m not sure they knew what to expect!

CHARLIE's RFH Brown's Hotel Adam Byatt

For good food and good atmosphere

Of course, I love Charlie’s. The restaurant is Adam Byatt’s sculpture; he’s defining it. You can see his personality there. It’s never just a dinner you’re having; it’s like you’re meeting a friend, and you want to come back and see that friend. The team always remembers our return guests.

For somewhere elegant

Hakkasan here in Mayfair is a Cantonese restaurant known for its dim sum. The interior is stunning. I also love Bar des Prés, a Japanese French fusion restaurant that feels playful and interactive, with the chef making the sushi in front of you at the counter-diner. The restaurant has a moody, intimate ambience, and on the lower ground floor, a DJ which is great fun.

Step off-the-beaten-track

Exploring London’s markets is one of the best ways to get to know the different neighbourhoods. There’s a Moroccan stall I absolutely love at Chiswick Food Market in West London which runs every Sunday. Foodies will enjoy the Mercato Metropolitano Food Court at Elephant & Castle or the Food Quart at Maltby Street Market. For somewhere with a very local identity, visit Broadway Market on a Sunday. A lovely pedestrianised area that reminds me that London used to be a collection of little villages.

Where to go
with someone special

I go out to eat a lot with my boyfriend, who is also a concierge. When we met, he showed me the city and took me to some nice restaurants; I fell in love with London at the same time as I fell in love with him! For a nice date, we’ll go to a rooftop restaurant.

Skylon on the Southbank is very romantic, with incredible views over the Thames. The menu is Modern European and the bar serves great cocktails. I always order a Cosmopolitan so I can compare them - this one was excellent!

New restaurants to try

CLAP in Knightsbridge is exciting. Their Japanese food is very sensory and quite unique. And a wonderful Greek restaurant called Gaia recently opened on Dover Street - I only had a drink and a starter when I visited but it was amazing.

Somewhere with a story

It was fun visiting The Dove in Hammersmith. The front bar is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the smallest in the UK. I like that kind of quirkiness. It also has a rich history of welcoming writers and poets in the nineteenth century. Ernest Hemingway and Dylan Thomas used to go there.  I honestly think a pub is one of the best places to find good food in England.

Where to go with the girls

I had a great time at Sketch when my best friend came to visit. Its Lecture Room and Library is a three Michelin-Starred restaurant. The food and wine is exceptional, and the dress code is ‘Art Smart’ (dress how you would when visiting an art gallery). My friend and I dined in the girly pink Gallery - very Instagrammable interiors! Another fun place to go is the original Mr Fogg’s Residence in Mayfair. The theme is based on Jules Verne’s iconic novel Around the World in Eighty Days and the drinks, decor, and atmosphere are charming.
