Visit a true London icon

I’m a traditionalist, so the Tower of London is my favorite London highlight. Often underestimated, it’s the city’s most iconic site, with a history stretching back to Roman times. Recently, we arranged a private early-morning Yeoman Tour for a family, complete with handling the Crown Jewels—a moment that stands out in my time at Brown’s. Creating such unforgettable experiences is truly special.

Slow down on the Thames

Break away from the traffic with a boat ride - after an hour on the river, you’ll be in a much different place. On the Thames, you’ll get a much better historical picture than you can in any other way. It’s an older way to travel, forcing you to take your time. As someone who has commuted to work on a motorbike for decades, I always recommend this change of pace!

An alternative view
of London

Greenwich Park is one of my favourite places to visit with my wire dachshund, Bert, and look out at the layers of London’s past and present. It’s awesome to remind yourself you’re in a royal park that was once home to the Palace where Henry VIII was born. This was their garden where they would hunt game - and you can still spot deer there. Although Bert is more interested in watching the squirrels.

Have a memorable journey

Black cab drivers are so full of stories, full of wisdom, they’ll tell you everything about London. Spend an hour with them going round the city - when we’ve booked this experience for guests, they’ve jumped in and out at their favourite landmarks - including of course the iconic pillar red phone box - to have their picture taken before continuing their ride.

See a play

I’ve never got bored of London theatre in thirty years. The Savoy Theatre on the Strand is my favourite. Despite its immense history, it feels intimate to visit. I also love The Playhouse. They’re both iconic. Their Victorian architecture makes you feel like you’re stepping back in time, but the shows they put on are some of the most modern and diverse imaginable. My love for London’s West End is rejuvenated every time I go out to the theatre.

Take home the ultimate souvenir

Something physical you can take away from London that’s been part of our heritage for centuries is a handmade bespoke London umbrella from James Smith & Sons. Founded in 1830 in a little shop just off Regent Street in the West End, the business moved to bigger premises at 53 New Oxford Street in 1857 and are still thriving there today. It feels like walking into Narnia - another world. There’s a bell on the door and everything is Victorian. You’ll hear black cab drivers simply refer to James Smith & Sons as ‘the umbrella shop’
