Artsy Sundays with Aldo Sacchetti

Fashion illustrator Aldo Sacchetti has a distinctive style characterised by slender and sophisticated haute couture figures in watercolour hues. A graduate of Koefia, the International Academy of High Fashion in Rome, his bold innovation of live sketching made him a sought-after artist in the fashion industry, leading to collaborations with iconic brands.

Aldo Sacchetti now brings his unique vision to our Sunday lunch diners through Lunch and Lab, a series of artisan workshops curated by him and his team. We caught up with him to ask why he thinks Hotel de la Ville is the ideal creative space, what our guests can expect from the workshops, and his favourite way to spend a Sunday.

Decorative arts in a creative haven

A young yet highly accomplished talent, Aldo Sacchetti feels an affinity with Hotel de la Ville, a hotel known and loved for its playful approach to art and creating: ‘Every room has a distinctive character, so we have designed our workshop experiences to be tailored to each space.’ Whether it’s hosted in the eclectic elegance of the Julep Bar, the Ivy Room’s timeless winter garden inspired splendour, the intriguing monochrome ambiance of Mosaico, or La Rotonda, the refined hidden jewel of our hotel, each workshop responds to its surroundings.

Some of the planned themes include glass painting, candle decorating, and calligraphy, as well as illustration, Aldo Sacchetti’s favourite medium for conveying personal narratives: ‘Through illustration, we express ourselves. Every line and shape in our drawings reveals something about who we are. It’s a way to let our inner thoughts and feelings flow freely. Each person finds their individual style and technique.’ Sunday lunch guests will have the opportunity to delve into these artisan traditions, passed down through centuries of skilled hands, in a stunning and nurturing environment, taking home a bespoke piece that they have made themselves: ‘Our focus is on art and handmade creations. Not pursuing it as a career, but as a way to relax, connect with others, and find joy.

Curating the perfect Sunday

Crafting has been shown to have positive effects on mood, reduce stress, and increase our sense of wellbeing, and Sachetti is a keen ambassador of art as an inclusive and mindful experience: ‘Now more than ever people want to relax, and a wonderful way to do so is through activities that distance us for a moment from our hectic daily lives. How better to do this than by enjoying an art-filled Sunday lunch with friends?’ Although Aldo Sacchetti travels widely and attends some of the world’s most exclusive events, his ideal Sunday is delightfully simple: ‘All I need is fresh air, beautiful Roman views, and good company. Plus, a little art to nourish my soul.’ His chosen art form, pencil and watercolour, is born of his belief that ‘the first draft has the biggest impact’. An art that avoids the heaviness of revisiting, live sketching captures spontaneity and lightness, and that becomes the final product. Whether you're a seasoned artist or simply looking for a fun and engaging weekend activity, Lunch and Lab is an opportunity to explore your creative potential in an inspiring setting.
