The history of Hotel de la Ville

Dating back to the 18th century, the hotel first came to prominence when European nobles elected it their favourite place to stay in Italy during the period of the Grand Tour. Now, the playful design and sumptuous interiors of Hotel de la Ville draw influence from the era of the Grand Tour and the memories that would have been collected during those journeys.

Preservation of historical heritage

The process of enhancing the existing historical heritage of the building was carried out by architect Tommaso Ziffer and Olga Polizzi, Design Director for Rocco Forte Hotels.  Their work paid homage to the past through careful collaboration with Italian artisans, such as the creation of personalised, handmade wallpaper by Rubelli and Dedar, and the use of precious Italian fabrics and a refined selection of vintage tapestries by Zardi & Zardi.
