Arthemisia and Palazzo Bonaparte present the first and most comprehensive painting exhibition ever held in Italy in honor of Fernando Botero: one of the most beloved artists by international audiences. Hotel de Russie is proud to be the hospitality partner of this extraordinary celebration dedicated to the Colombian genius.

The exhibition, which covers over 60 years of artistic career, is curated by Lina Botero, the artist's daughter, and Cristina Carrillo de Albornoz, a renowned expert on his works. Over 120 pieces, including paintings, watercolors, sanguines, charcoal drawings, sculptures, and some extraordinary unpublished works, exceptionally loaned just for this exhibition, will be displayed in the prestigious halls of Palazzo Bonaparte.

Large-scale works will showcase the sumptuous roundness of Botero's style, rendered with three-dimensional effects and vibrant, bold colors. A completely new, imaginative, and poetic universe deeply rooted in his native Colombia.

The exhibition begins with "Homage to Mantegna" (1958), a recently discovered work never before exhibited, where Botero pays tribute to Mantegna's "Camera degli sposi" after a trip to Italy. This painting earned him first prize at the National Salon of Colombian Artists in 1958. The exhibition also includes reinterpretations of masterpieces such as Raphael's "Fornarina," the Montefeltro diptych by Piero della Francesca, and portraits by Rubens and van Eyck, leading up to his final works from 2023. Another unpublished piece is a version of the infanta from Velázquez's "Las Meninas."

From September 17, 2024, to January 19, 2025
