“For me, being a concierge is more than just a profession. I believe that every guest deserves to feel like royalty and that hospitality is about creating moments of joy.”
My Favourites:
How to spend a weekend in Munich
Start your Munich adventure with a stroll through the charming Old Town, pausing to listen to the chime of the famous Glockenspiel clock in the New Town Hall, and watch the animated figures perform their centuries-old stories. Then, wander through the stalls at the Viktualienmarkt, picking up a warm pretzel from Karnoll’s or an ice cream from Verrückte Eismacher (crazy ice-cream maker).
Walk off your food around the picturesque English Garden, pausing for a beer at the historic Chinese Tower, then go and watch the surfers braving the freezing cold water of the Eisbachwelle – not for the faint-hearted.
Spend the next day wandering through the Kunstareal neighbourhood with its 18 museums and over 40 galleries, it’s amazing. You would be well-placed to spend your time at the three Pinakotheks - Alte Pinakothek, Neue Pinakothek (currently closed for renovations) which houses 18th-20th-century favourites such as Monet, Van Gogh and Rodin and finally, the Pinakothek der Moderne which showcases modern masters including Picasso and Warhol. We can arrange bespoke, guided walking or driving tours for whatever you like - from history and culture to art to shopping, there’s so much to see and do.
The perfect souvenir
I would say the ultimate Bavarian gift would be tracht, the traditional clothing such as the dirndl or lederhosen. You can get amazing outfits from Cocovero, they have an incredible array of colours and fabrics to choose from, or Lodenfrey, who create beautiful, traditional clothing with a modern twist.
If you haven’t got much space in your suitcase, I would recommend some chocolates from Dallmayr, the oldest delicatessen in the city. They make most of their chocolates in-house and they’re like miniature works of art. And, of course, you can’t leave Munich without a traditional Stein from one of our famous breweries.
The best views in the city
Olympiapark is a pretty amazing place to go, originally built for the Munich Olympics in 1972, it’s still buzzing with life and lots of people go jogging and walking around there.
Just off Marienplatz is St Peter’s Church, the oldest parish church in the city, with a beautiful clock tower known as Alter Peter (Old Peter) by locals. Climb the tower – be warned, it has 306 steps! – for wonderful views over the city.
Closer to home, the view from our Monteforte Royal Suite is one of the best in the city with direct vistas over the Old Botanical Garden, the double towers of the Church of Our Lady, and the striking architecture of the domed Justizpalast and New Justizpalast.
